Poet. What can I say about Poet, my heart dog and the foundation of my breeding program? From the moment I laid eyes on him and took him in my arms I knew he was special. I have an affinity with Poet that I have never had with any other animal. Not a day goes by where he doesn't make me smile. Everything Poet does, he does well. In everything we do, we are a team with a bond that cannot be broken. Still...these words feel inadequate to describe what this dog really means to me.
Poet started his racing career with a bang, winning the 2002 WRA National Race Meet as an FTE (first time entered) at the young age of 13 1/2 months old. He has since gone on to win 23 more WRA race meets amassing 139.5 National points which puts him at #5 in the WRA Lifetime Top 20. He has recently won a WRA meet at the ripe age of 6 years old and he is a NOTRA meet winner as well. He has been in the WRA Top Ten for 5 years in a row which is amazing when you consider he's been balancing an agility career at the same time. For the past 4 years Poet has been in the Top Ten AKC Agility Whippets, and has qualified for the first four AKC Agility Invitationals by being one of the Top 5 of his breed.
In between racing and agility Poet has also had time to get titles in obedience and rally, and to get pointed in the show ring.
He has sired 4 fabulous litters producing six race champions and six meet winners in his first litter alone (including a NOTRA National Champion and a two time NOTRA National Meet Winner). Both pups from his second litter are Race Champions and nationally pointed on both tracks. The third litter is also very strong on the track producing 4 meet winners and 3 race champions to date, while also dabbling in lure coursing, disc and flyball, garnering points in all the disciplines. So far Poet has produced thirteen meet winners and fifteen Race Champions. His latest litter, which is a repeat of his first, is showing much promise as they begin their racing careers with already three Race Champions and two meet winners.
Poet is slated to sire a few more litters in the next year or so. Stay tuned for more info.
